superuser_do – opening, exhibition

30 September – 11 October 2026, BWA Katowice basement
opening of the exhibition: Wednesday, 30 September 2026, 8:00 pm

The presentation, held as part of KGHM New Media Week, is the second iteration of an exhibition originally curated as the finale of the 12th Best Media Art Graduation Projects Competition. The competition is co-organized by the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław and the WRO Art Center, in collaboration with public art academies across Poland.

This year’s edition is held under the title superuser_do.

The phrase references the system command sudo, which allows users to perform actions with administrator-level privileges, overriding default restrictions, intervening in system structures, and implementing changes. The exhibition positions artists as superusers: individuals who, through specialization, gain the agency to test, transform, and negotiate the rules of reality.

The slogan escaped its metaphorical boundaries and began to function as a kind of call to action. Eight artists, meeting in Wrocław, had the opportunity not only to confront their works with the space and with each other, but also to demonstrate how they understand agency in practice. Diverse temperaments, working methods, and ways of thinking did not blur within the collaborative project; on the contrary, they became an essential part of it.

Exploring the relationship between humans and technology – at once nurturing and oppressive; capturing sound generated by biological networks and aquatic flow systems; exposing corporate realities shaped by loops and overload; intervening in image-making and recording tools; constructing a queer archive processed through AI; and examining high fashion in provincial contexts – these are the fields of activity engaged by the artists whose works comprise this year’s exhibition at the WRO Art Center.

Moving down from the attic spaces of the WRO Art Center to the basements of BWA Katowice, we invite these distinct projects to resonate once more, opening themselves up to a new context and new readings.
