FCKING WALKING CANES — 31st duo: mariia Lemperk and Dawid Kowalik

Thursday, June 25, 2026, 6:00 PM

Walking canes are also disco balls and dildos.
We invite you to a concert, to a post-p_rn filming session on the stairs.
Coming from the experience of chronic pain /daily pain management/ we are working on demedicalization of the mobility devices. Which means that to touch a walking cane, we have to start playing with them.
Subversion aims to restore agency. The brutal infusion of pleasure into painful places is intended to give them different perspectives, both physical and semantic.

The performance is set on the stairs of the BWA Gallery. From the half-landing upward, please stand if you prefer not to engage in interaction. Below the half-landing, position yourself if you are open to interaction and touch.
Noise, nudity and s_x. The event is for 18+ guests; earplugs are gonna be available at the entrance. June 25, 6:00 PM, BWA Katowice.

mariia lemperk is an artist (they/them, she/her, he/his) from Odessa, Ukraine, whose work thrives on the intersection of memory and body politics. Recent work has focused on (un)controlled spaces of pain, performative archives, issues of non-hierarchical structures, gender deconstruction, and the presence of queerness in today’s political and cultural chaos.

D. Kowalik is a Warsaw-based minimalist musician whose creative journey began in 2012. Through his skillful blend of voice, guitar pedals, and modular synthesizers, he has carved a distinct niche in the genres of proto-dark ambient, drone music, and harsh noise. Beyond his solo work, D. Kowalik is also recognized for his contributions to other captivating projects such as Milczenie, PAIN GAME, 31st, KAVE, and Grief Christ.

Event within the SENSORIUM EXPANDED_appendix project

This event is part of SENSORIUM EXPANDED_appendix, a research and educational initiative focused on advancing the role of art in responding to the complex challenges associated with disability. The project brings together diverse artistic practices, scientific perspectives, and participatory methodologies, creating a collaborative platform for artists, researchers, and participants with a wide range of sensory, cognitive, and motor impairments.

At the core of the project is a series of conceptual and practice-based workshops through which prototypes of technological, spatial, and social solutions are developed. These solutions are designed to enable activities that have previously been inaccessible or considered impossible to undertake. A key principle of the project is the equal involvement of people with disabilities in the design process, while carefully addressing their specific needs and requirements.

Our aim is to create a space for testing innovative solutions where people with special needs can actively co-create new models of participation in culture.
