29th Polish Poster Biennale Katowice 2025 – exhibition
What do the willows rustle about, and what does the poster whisper? Or rather, what does it shout, what does it ask? Why do we still need something like a poster in the 21st century? After all, in the age of advanced animation, motion design and the boom of new media, this old-fashioned poster – a piece of design art on paper – seems like an anachronism. A poster does not vibrate, does not shine, and is theoretically silent, although in principle it should sing and it does indeed, sometimes shouting, catching the eye, seducing with its form, lettering and message. This archaic paper art form still brings a flush to the faces of enthusiasts, creators and collectors. In a painfully technological world, we still pause to admire a piece of art that flutters like a butterfly on an advertising pillar, heralding good news and events, drawing attention to problems. Reality changes like the images in a kaleidoscope, but posters are still in demand by both audiences and creators. The poster has come a long way from being a proclamation, an advertising tool, to a weapon in the struggle for a better world. Now is the time when the poster can perform all these functions, because it is allowed to. It is allowed to be a work of art, the essence of design, it is allowed to be poetic, illustrative, synthetic or nonchalantly concise. Diversity is key, and this is the strength of modern posters, which, apart from their formal abundance, remain primarily a means of communication. The 29th Polish Poster Biennale is about to be decided. The number of works that have flooded Katowice’s BWA gallery is still impressive. Once again, young artists will meet their masters, and the gallery walls will be lit up with posters. Once again, we will celebrate together, ask questions, and inspire each other. Because the most important thing is to meet and stay together, despite our different worldviews and styles. Posters bring us together, and let them stay that way!
