The Art of Touch — Izabela Jasińska and Dominik Gocyła in the Small Space
This exhibition presents an extraordinary artistic project by Dominik Gocyła, a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, who invited his aunt, Izabela Jasińska, to collaborate. It’s a story of two worlds meeting: a young creator and a mature woman; a moving narrative about connection, courage, and the power of creativity. The Art of Touch is more than just an exhibition – it is the record of an art therapy process, where art becomes a bridge: between generations, between senses, between past and present, between the visible world and the one that lives in memory, the body, and emotions. It is an intimate story about trust, reclaiming one’s voice, and overcoming barriers – both physical and internal.
Ms. Izabela lost her sight as a young girl. Thanks to Dominik, she returned to the creative process for the first time in decades. In a safe and supportive relationship and space, she was once again able to express herself – through touch, memories, body memory, and intuition. Her work is not only an artistic manifesto but also a testament to the therapeutic potential of art. It affirms the values that art therapy brings: creation as an act of liberation and empowerment – building a sense of agency regardless of physical limitations. The process of creating the works was not focused on the final outcome, but on the experience itself. Ms. Izabela’s works are tactile forms – sculptural, textural, and spatial – not telling of what is seen, but of what can be felt.
This exhibition was designed with haptic experience in mind. You are invited to immerse yourself in a space of darkness, silence, and attentiveness. You will have the opportunity to experience creations made without sight – but with immense sensitivity and heart. This unique encounter, offering a different way of perceiving reality, shows that art can be a universal language of understanding.
